CNN broadcasted yesterday a powerful report on Rosia Montana, historical site and gold mine in Romania that dates back to the great Roman Empire. During those times, the Romans were exploiting Alburnus Maior, the village’s ancient name, for its gold riches. It seems that its resources was one of the main reasons why the Roman emperor Traian decided to conquer Dacia.
Nowadays, its inhabitants struggle with life in what seems more of a remote place. While mining seems to be the only job answer in Rosia Montana, many have other opinions with regards to the exploitation of the gold mine by a Canadian company, and suggest that tourism and preservation should be the key answer here.
